As soon as the shift to work from home happened, we saw many filmmakers quickly adopt the use of Team Projects remote workflows and Premiere Pro Productions to keep everyone organized while finishing out their projects. It’s been great to see how our customers are adapting to remote workflows.
2021 saw more and more studios and networks investing in cloud technology to handle a distributed post workforce. What’s the biggest trend you’ve seen in editing over the past year? I could see shops ultimately having a reduced number of client-facing rooms. I think people are itching to get back in-studio. I did at one point, but now I don’t know. The editors I work with would additionally say Jump Desktop has been vital for them, but since I’ve been working from the office, I haven’t had to rely on it.ĭo you expect brick-and-mortar shops to reduce their footprint in the future? So far, I’ve only used Avid when remote, and it’s worked great.

What NLE or software worked the best when working remotely? If hybrid, which software needed the least amount of new knowledge? Of course, we miss the in-person hang, but as far as the collaborative creative process goes, virtual gets the job done well. We’ve had to stretch ourselves in ways we couldn’t have anticipated, yet it has remained both rewarding and fun. I think we’ve still been able to try as many things as we want to try and dig deep into edits just as much as we always did. If you had the option to choose, would you work full-time in-studio, full-time at home or hybrid? I tried my hardest to emulate her approach - to make every session an enjoyable, comfortable and collaborative experience. She excelled at virtual education, continually reaching and engaging every student, every day. My oldest son, Oliver, had a phenomenal kindergarten teacher last year. I started working out of our offices in Soho again early last summer because nobody else was there, but also because the infrastructure is infinitely more conducive to virtual sessions than my home setup. Can you talk about how that experience has been during the pandemic? I’ve tried all the rest, and they work well, but whenever I’ve switched it up, clients have asked to go back to the original Zoom participant deal almost immediately. Playback is simply a Zoom participant that can be pinned, muted, left alone in the gallery, etc. It’s through Zoom, but it’s not screen-sharing. I’m still using a setup that our technical director whipped together when we first transitioned to working from home.
